The measure promotes technology transfer and business innovation through collaboration between Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Research Organisations, fostering the acquisition of specialist knowledge and expertise to be integrated into business development processes. Within this framework, TerrAria collaborated with the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II (UNINA) to expand and transfer advanced know-how in agronomy, phenology and plant pathology. CROPVIS was created to support farms, consortia and producer organisations in the sustainable management of crops, addressing the practical and constantly evolving needs of the agricultural sector. In a context where technological innovation is playing an increasingly strategic role in improving agricultural productivity and sustainability, the project involved the development of a Proof of Concept (PoC) aimed at acquiring and transferring advanced expertise and defining new digital decision-support tools. The activities focused particularly on grapevines and followed two complementary lines of development: the definition of a soil sickness risk model; the analysis and application of models for predicting the risk of grapevine downy mildew infections, integrated with modelling of crop phenological development. The activities were applied to the Franciacorta area. Tipo di progetto: ERDF Programme FESR 2021-2027 Budget: 30’000 Euros Duration: April 2026 – September 2026 Number and partners involved: University of Naples Federico II – Department of Agricultural Sciences and TerrAria Srl (SME) Role: Beneficiary One of the project’s main activities focused on the phenomenon of soil sickness, a condition associated with the prolonged or repeated cultivation of a single crop species in the same soil, due to self-inhibition mechanisms mediated by self-DNA. The accumulation in the soil of DNA fragments originating from the same cultivated species can cause stress in plants, making them more vulnerable to pathogen attacks and potentially favouring the formation of infection hotspots. Soil sickness can affect crop productivity and may also influence the spread and severity of pathogens and pests. During the project, the relationship between soil sickness conditions and grapevine vulnerability to complex diseases was therefore investigated, with particular attention to grape trunk disease. For this disease, which is characterised by a high degree of complexity and variability in symptom expression, no consolidated operational forecasting models are currently available. Soil sickness modelling was therefore developed as a tool to identify areas potentially characterised by greater criticality, where monitoring activities and agronomic interventions can be prioritised. The second line of activity focused on grapevine downy mildew, a disease whose development is closely linked to weather conditions and for which forecasting models based on variables such as temperature, humidity, precipitation and leaf wetness are available. As part of the project, OCTOPUS was used, integrating eight plant disease models for downy mildew and one grapevine phenological model. The multi-model approach enabled an integrated analysis of the relationships between weather conditions, crop phenological development and plant disease risk, comparing different forecasting methods and consolidating the know-how required for the subsequent integration of this information into digital decision-support tools. The two components developed within the project, the risk associated with soil sickness and the prediction of downy mildew infections, therefore provided different but complementary information for crop management. The activities carried out led to the definition of a mock-up for a future Decision Support System (DSS), designed to integrate territorial, agronomic, phenological and plant disease information within a single tool. The system was designed to support more targeted agronomic decisions, making it possible to identify the most critical areas and plan vineyard monitoring activities and interventions more effectively. The approach developed within CROPVIS was also conceived to be scalable and adaptable to different territorial and crop contexts, laying the foundations for further developments and applications of the system. THE ROLE OF TERRARIA TerrAria contributed to the project by bringing its long-standing experience in the development of digital solutions and decision support systems for the agricultural sector, together with its expertise in territorial data management and applied modelling. In collaboration with UNINA, this expertise was further enhanced by agronomic, phenological and plant pathology knowledge, with particular reference to soil sickness modelling and downy mildew risk forecasting. CROPVIS thus enabled TerrAria to deepen and transfer new specialist knowledge, applying it to the development of a Proof of Concept and the mock-up of a future DSS for sustainable crop management.

[54
post-6447","casi-studio","type-casi-studio","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","aree-servizi-research-and-development
["GET
